Bolingbrook’s Village Board voted Tuesday to approve $60,300 to replace a leaky 23-year-old roof at one of the town’s fire stations.
The roof at fire station 4 at 1111 W. Boughton Rd. has six to 12 “active leaks” and needs to be repaired immediately, Mayor Roger Claar said.
Money to fix the roof was included in this year’s budget, and the sole bid put in by Showalter Roofing Service was about $4,700 under budget, Claar said.
The existing roof will be removed down to the decking, and any rotten or damaged wood beneath will be replaced for an additional charge of $55 per four-foot by eight-foot sheet, according to village documents.
The board also voted Tuesday to add $82,000 to an existing $644,577 plan to turn a former sewage treatment plant runoff pond into a fountain.
The former runoff pond, which sits behind village hall, was once fed by a stream that carried effluent from a since-closed sewage treatment plant, Claar said.
When the treatment plant closed, the creek stopped flowing and the pond became unsightly and filled with debris, he said.
The former pond site dried up and also had “a bit of a smell to it,” Claar said.
The extra cost will help deepen 25 percent of the pond to a depth of 10 feet, according to village documents.
The board also authorized about $47,000 to be spent to upgrade the town’s 911 system to bring it into compliance with the Western Will County Communications Center, or WESCOM.
Board members voted last month to shutter the town’s existing 911 dispatch operation and farm the service out to WESCOM, a consortium of various area emergency services.

Finally, approval was given for development of a 329,800 square-foot office and warehouse space at 969 Veterans Parkway.
