Forget ISIS. America has spoken, and it cares much more about TPIR.
CBS preempted “The Price is Right” on Friday for President Obama’s speech from Wales. And judging by the reaction on social media, the little guy from the Cliff Hangers game is much more popular than our commander in chief.
We’re not just talking about a few tweets, we’re talking about enough tweets to make “The Price is Right” a national trending topic on Twitter.
And the tweets! Oh, the tweets.
“@_joseee: Why is Obama having this press conference when the Price is Right is on. That’s so selfish.”
Turns out, this isn’t the first time our “selfish” president has pulled this stunt.
“@duhrellll: Obama always seems to make speeches when I’m trying to watch The Price is Right.”
Scroll back to July in the Twitter search and you’ll see tweets just like these, but maybe a little less angry.
It’s really quite funny that so many people thought Obama had to anything to do with the specific timing on ‘The Price is Right.’

“@AlishaKeys312: When Obama interrupts the Price Is Right They couldn’t wait 10 more minutes for the news to come on?
Really, Obama. It was the SHOWCASE FREAKIN’ SHOWDOWN! Don’t take my word for it.
“@gtown2020: STOP INTERRUPTING PRICE IS RIGHT OBAMA, YOU HAVE HORRIBLE TIMING, IT’S THE SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN!!!”
“?@mirandaaae: They just interrupted the price is right so Obama could talk… Let’s get real, what could be more important than the showcase showdown?
Seriously, let’s get real. What could be more important? Islamic State. Ukraine. A new government in Iraq. That’s nothing, especially if you spin again on 60 cents and go over by a nickel!
I can’t even. I just can’t. In one tweet, there’s a photo of someone standing in front of his TV extending his middle finger at Obama.
Sorry, ‘Merica. I love “The Price is Right” as much as the next person and maybe more. I’ve been a Bob Barker fan all my life and play on my iPhone. But for this, y’all get that loser horn sound.
Bom-bom-bom-bom-bommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
As a social media person with a good sense of humor, I totally get it. But the tweets today don’t appear to be from people who are joking around — they appear to be from complacent people who truly value a game show over what’s happening in the world. And that’s even more frightening less than a week before the anniversary of Sept. 11.
Here’s hoping Obama never does this again. We wouldn’t want to miss someone winning both Showcases.
