Meteorological summer 2014 has been an exceptionally wet one and even more rain is expected before it ends Sunday night. Scattered showers and thunderstorms peppered the greater Chicago area Friday with some locally heavy totals. Nearly an inch of rain (0.91 inches) soaked Kentland, Ind., while a downpour brought Rockford more than three-quarters of an inch (0.82 inch). With humid air well-entrenched across the region, more showers and thunderstorms are expected Saturday before winding down Saturday night. Dry weather is expected Sunday before late-season warmth and humidity fuel more thunderstorms as September and meteorological fall begin.
More than 2 feet of rain at Midway
Summer rainfall has topped 25 inches at Midway Airport and while the city’s official 16.90-inch total at O’Hare is considerably less, it still totals more than 5.25 inches above the typical summer rainfall value.
