Marley Community Church’s annual summer flea market later this month will feature more than 80 vendors, food and entertainment.
The festivities will be a bit bigger this year because the Mokena church is celebrating the market’s 50th year.
The event is June 21, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in a park next to the church, 12625 W. 187th St. , right across from Willow Run Golf Course. Information for the public and vendors is at 815-485-8587.
A variety of items wil be on sale, including antiques, signs, sports t-shirts, jackets and hats, cars assessories, and wood working and furniture. One vendor is bringing different-sized ladders to sell off a truck and another will sell flowers and baskets. A white elephant sale inside the church staffed by members will offer antiques, glassware, dishware and toys.
Refreshments at a food pavilion will include barbecue, hot dogs, bratwurst, soft drinks and a variety of baked goods, including pies made by church members. Popcorn will be free.
Entertainment could include guitar music by church members and a few surprises, still being planned.
“It’s a very special event to us,” said Barbara Curtiss, a church member. “But we’re trying to make it a little more so this year.”
Curtiss said proceeds will go to a mission group and the rest to a church program, such as sending [church] kids to a camp in Wisconsin.
“Everybody from our church comes to help out … it’s definitely a team event,” she said.
