Eric Carney, of the 4800 block South Chicago Beach Drive, was charged with a felony count of robbery, the Chicago Police Department announced early this morning.
According to police, Carney grabbed a cell phone that a 28-year-old passenger was holding on a train at the Western stop, in the 1900 block of North Western Avenue, about 6:10 a.m. on Sunday.
The passenger chased after the suspect as he left the train, but she tripped at the bottom of a set of stairs at the station, and the suspect fled the scene, according to police.
Carney was identified and arrested after police issued a community alert with surveillance photos, police said. He is scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday.
A community alert distributed Tuesday about the robbery also listed a Jan. 6 incident in which a 32-year-old woman was robbed about 6:45 a.m., also at the Western stop. The CPD news release announcing that Carney had been charged did not mention the incident.
