is heading back to the Ron Burgundy well with a one-week release in the U.S. and U.K. of a new cut of “
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
” — with 763 more jokes.
The re-cut version replaces nearly all of the jokes in the original film, which opened Dec. 18, with new jokes. Director Adam McKay, who wrote the script with star
, has promised that the new film is far raunchier.
“When my editor told me we had a whole different version of the movie that was more than two hours long with nearly 800 new jokes, I was shocked,” said McKay. “But when Paramount said they were actually going to put it in theaters, I did an 1950s spit take. If you’re a hardcore ‘Anchorman’ fan, go see this. If you’re not, stay very far away.”
“Anchorman 2” grossed $125 million and was still playing at 261 locations last weekend. It has taken in another $45 million internationally.
