An Old Town man was ordered held in lieu of $10,000 bail Sunday after he allegedly punched a police officer in the face after being kicked out of a Streeterville bar Friday night.
Paul E. Leimkuehler, 25, of the 400 block of West North Avenue, faces felony aggravated battery of a peace officer and resisting arrest charges in connection to the incident, which happened outside the Public House bar at 400 North State Street, according to Cook County Bond Court records.
Leimkuehler was kicked out of the bar at about 11:45 p.m. Friday and angrily threw numerous posts holding ropes outside the establishment, according to Assistant State’s Attorney Jacqueline Kwilos.
Police were parked right outside and one of the officers got out and walked toward Leimkuehler, asking him what was going on, Kwilos said.
Leimkuehler, listed in court records as a Northwestern University student, then punched the officer in the face, according to Kwilos.
Officers sought to restrain him but Leimkuehler struggled with the officers, according to Kwilos.
The same officer who was punched by Leimkuehler also suffered a broken hand during the struggle, she said.
The officer was treated and released at Northwestern Hospital, according to court records.
Leimkuehler has a master’s degree, his attorney said in court Sunday.
“Based on the accusation, I wouldn’t think he had a master’s degree,” Judge James Brown said.
