Police took a 21-year-old man into custody Monday night after a standoff on a roof in the Lakeview neighborhood, authorities said.
About 8 p.m., officers spotted the man in a stolen vehicle in a parking lot in the 800 block of West Addison Street, police said.
When police approached the man, he shoved an officer and fled into a nearby building, according to police. He then made his way to the building’s roof, where he threatened to jump, officials said.
A Chicago Police SWAT team was called about 8:20 p.m. to building, which is across the street from the Town Hall Police station, and CTA buses in the area were temporarily re-routed.
Chicago Fire Department crews also responded to the scene with a jump bag, according to the Chicago Fire Department’s news office.
The man was eventually taken into custody uninjured and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation.
Charges are pending.
