Fifteen Chicago Chiptole restaurants are adding an unlikely item to their menus in the next week: local craft beer.
The beer will be from Chicago’s 5 Rabbit brewery, sitting on Chipotle racks alongside more predictable offerings like Pacifico, Dos XX, Corona and Miller Lite.
Since launching in the summer of 2011, 5 Rabbit has positioned itself as the nation’s first Latin-themed craft brewery. The beer has been widely accepted in craft beer circles, but in Chipotle, will aim for a decidedly more mainstream audience. Other Chipotles across the country have sold craft beer, but this is a first for the Chicago area.
The beers available will be 5 Rabbit, a simple golden ale reminiscent of Corona, and 5 Vulture, a dark ale more similar to Negra Modelo, brewed with chiles and spices. If sales are brisk, the brewery could add more 5 Rabbit labels to Chipotle coolers and expand the brand’s reach to Chipotles throughout Chicagoland.
The Chipotle locations that will feature 5 Rabbit beer are: 10 E. Jackson Blvd., 525 W. Monroe St., 233 W. Lake St., 316 N. Michigan Ave., 291 E. Ontario St., 610 W. Diversey Ave., 8 E. Madison St., 2000 N. Clyborun Ave., 6 W. Grand Ave., 1025 W. Belmont Ave., 1166 N. State St., 230 W. Monroe St., 3181 N. Broadway St., 10 S. LaSalle St. and 210 W. North Ave.
