A woman and a man have been charged with murdering a Harvey youth football coach and his assistant, officials said Saturday.

Detectives believe the motive was robbery, Harvey police spokeswoman Sandra Alvarado said.

Carrie Cook, 24, of Harvey, and Gene Lewis, 31, of Blue Island, were each charged with two counts of first-degree murder on Saturday and ordered held in lieu of $5 million bail at the Markham Courthouse, Alvarado said.

Authorities are looking for two persons of interest, a male and a female, Alvarado said.

Frank Brassel, 50, a longtime coach with the Harvey Colts youth football team, and Echford Cooper, 46, his assistant, were gunned down April 20 in the home they shared in the 15100 block of South Myrtle Avenue. Last week, Alvarado said authorities believed the shooting was an isolated incident and that the victims knew the gunman.

Cooper, who used a wheelchair, moved in with Brassel a few years ago so Brassel could help take care of him, relatives said.
