Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I’m ashamed to admit it but I threw away a lot of rubbery kolhrabi last year.

So I’m thinking about skipping a CSA this year to get my produce from farmers markets instead.

(For those who don’t know, a CSA, or community supported agriculture, is a program by which you pay the farmer an upfront fee for a season’s worth of weekly produce deliveries.)

Yes, I have written glowingly about CSAs as a way to support local farmers and bring a large quantity and variety of fresh local produce into your home. And I still believe that they are. But CSAs may be best suited for folks who don’t have access to several great farmers markets each week like I do–and who really like turnips and kohlrabi. 🙂

With a few weeks left to sign up for a CSA (here is a great list of them from Local Beet) and about a week before the first farmers market opens, I have a little time to decide and would love to hear from readers on this.

Are farmers market prices driving you to sign up for a cheaper CSA?

Or have large quantities of earthy vegetables driven you back to the farmers market to buy only what you love?

Please tell me about it in the comments section below.
