Holiday shoppers say they are going to be more frugal this holiday season and be less inclined to shop for items for themselves, according to an online survey Mintel research group posted last month. Approximately 63 percent said they’re budgeting more than they did last year.
Retailers are taking note of the trend and stepping up to the plate with tempting discounts, according to Chris Haack, a senior analyst at Mintel.
“[Shoppers are] definitely cutting back, but they are looking for a good bargain and will buy it if they see it,” Haack said. “Retailers have been playing to that, putting up coupons on sites months ago for redemption at stores. Consumers are doing their research and then snapping these deals up.”
