Glenbard West offensive lineman Chris Watt was honored Saturday as a U.S. Army All-American before the Hilltoppers’ victory over Lyons Township.

The Notre-Dame bound Watt will play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 3 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

“I watched the game last year, so it’s kind of cool to be a part of something so special,” Watt said. “To play for the U.S. Army and honor your country?every day they’re working hard, so it’s great to play for them.”

Watt sat out of Saturday’s game?a 28-14 Hilltoppers’ victory?as a precautionary measure after he suffered a sprained right ankle against Downers Grove North in a Week 7 victory. He is expected to play in No. 8 Glenbard West’s regular-season finale at No. 7 Hinsdale Central on Friday.

“It was a little disappointing (not playing), but it was good to get a win,” Watt said. “Winning this game allows our team to be back here at Duchon (Field) for the playoffs, so I’m going to get another opportunity to play on this field again. I want to be healthy for next week. That’s a big game coming up against Hinsdale.”
