When Hillery Estes — whose design provenance comes via Nate Berkus — takes to the stores, she’s not just looking for the next slick designer piece. “I love a modern feel combined with old, textured elements,” she says. Estes, who is launching a Web site for budget-minded clients later this summer (homeaddressonline.com), isn’t shy about bargains, either. We shopped along at four of her favorite sources.
1. REVIVAL

Estes was “obsessed” with this Edward Wormley Janus chair ($1,500) at hot vintage seller Revival, where the inventory ranges from traditional bookshelves with layers of crusty patina to slick midcentury finds.

2. SCOUT
Shop owner Larry Vodak is the best find in this “urban antiques” store. Estes relies on his deft touch with mixed media – his vintage finds give upscale modern rooms an earthy quality. Her faves? Almost everything, from sea sponges ($20 to $85) to some knockout lamps like this one, which was priced at around $400. 5221 N. Clark St., 773-275-5700
3. CASTE
Estes calls on Caste for artful indulgences — gifts and pieces for clients with the store’s signature sculptural quality — such as these hand-carved bird sculptures ($120 each).
521 N. Halsted St., 312-432-0717
4. URBAN SOURCE
Shopping professionally has its benefits: while stopping here, Estes found a wallpaper (“Coy” by Chicago designers Palace Papers; $165 per 5-yard roll) she might just use in her own place. But the beauty of this shop is that you don’t have to be a pro to buy — and you can get as little as one roll of gorgeous designer wallpaper for that special small project.
