The university dubbed Wednesday night’s DePaul Relays its “first home track meet in 50 years,” but in fact, it was much more than that.
The dedication of the Lane Stadium outdoor track on the campus of Lane Tech “will benefit thousands of kids,” DePaul athletic director Jean Lenti Ponsetto said.
“There’s no better track in the city than this one,” DePaul track coach Pat Savage said.

The track, financed by DePaul, which then signed a 20-year lease with Chicago Public Schools, is part of a program dubbed “Fields of Dreams” that began with new lights and a new field subsidized by the Bears and a grant from the NFL.
The field and track are open to all elementary and high school athletes in and around the Chicago area.
