“I’ve got ADHD,” “Extreme Makeover” carpenter-turned-home-design specialist Ty Pennington admitted happily at the late summer opening of his shop on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, Calif. “That’s why I called the shop ADHD, it’s a pretty funny play on words; and it proves that people like me with ADHD can actually focus on one thing long enough to make it happen!”
The Art Design Home Decor boutique, nestled in a little converted house just past Hal’s restaurant (they catered the bash), is filled with a riot of colorful home furnishings that emphasize the bedroom and the dining room, with a little fine art thrown in.
“I love Venice,” Pennington said. “I’ve lived here for a long time, and it’s always been a place for cutting-edge design and art, so this is a street where I feel really comfortable.”
Actress Halle Berry felt comfortable enough to stop in with boyfriend Gabriel Aubry, wearing a black-and-white trapeze dress, which fueled curiousity about her pregnancy, while Pennington’s co-star on “Makeover,” Tracy Hutson, proudly showed off her baby bump in a form-fitting sheath.
The show’s handsome hunk, Eduardo Xol, also joined the happy crowd that spilled out of the shop and its patio onto the busy sidewalk. But it was Ty who sparked the spontaneous sobbing of a 12-year-old girl who happened to be walking by with her family. Seems she’s a big fan, and after Ty took time out to say hello to her, we’ll bet her family was the first to actually shop at ADHD.
