Are family and friends using your humble abode as a hotel this summer? Be the most hospitable host and offer them a guest room fit for a king. Try these simple tips for creating a five-star guest room:

– Keep fresh linens and towels where guests can find them.

– Roll linens and/or towels and stick them in a basket in the guest room. This will keep guests from having to fumble through the linen closet or wondering what towels are for show and what are for use.

– Stashing spare pillows and an extra blanket in the room is a good idea, too.

– Make room for your guests. Clear a drawer or two out for guests to use. Likewise, make space in the closet and leave some empty coat hangers for them to use.

– Also, cut out the clutter in your guest room. It will give the room a cleaner look and leave your guests space to spread out their toiletries and other belongings.

– Keep a stash of travel-size toiletries, in case your guests forget something. Place them in a basket in the room or bathroom so your guest won’t have to ask to borrow something.

– An extra hair dryer, curling iron and clothes iron are helpful, too.

– What’s more welcoming than food? A snack basket is the ultimate thoughtful gesture you can make. Crackers, granola bars and, of course, a little chocolate are perfect.

– Provide some reading material. Set out a good magazine or two and maybe even a paperback novel you wouldn’t mind parting with, in case your guest really gets into it.

– Set out a telephone book and a map of the area for your guests to peruse and get their bearings before the next day.
