In case you missed it, CBS announced a couple of weeks ago that those 20 tons of peanuts sent to CBS offices convinced the network to renew “Jericho” for at least seven more episodes.
“You got our attention,” CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler wrote on the network’s Web site.

The new episodes will begin midseason, which means early 2008. In the meantime, CBS will repeat much of the first season, starting with the pilot July 6. On July 13, CBS will run the midway recap, then episode 12, then the last 10 episodes through the summer on Fridays.
All of this is good news for fans of the serial about a Kansas town that survived what seems to be a nuclear holocaust. But Tassler’s message made it clear that “Jericho’s” future is not all sunshine.
“We will count on you to rally around the show,” she wrote on the site, “to recruit new viewers with the same grass-roots energy, intensity and volume you have displayed in recent weeks.”
Translation: If there are going to be any more new episodes beyond the promised seven, ratings will have to get better. And, although she doesn’t say this explicitly, CBS wants fans to watch the show on broadcast TV, not recorded and surely not on DVD.
