`WHEN HARRY MET SALLY’ (star)(star)(star)

8 p.m., HMRK

The theme of Rob Reiner’s new film is no less grand than that of romantic fatality — the couple that is destined by the gods to come together — yet the movie must spend most of its energy distancing itself from it, changing what would once have been (in the hands of a ’30s filmmaker such as Frank Borzage) a swooning romantic spectacle into a series of blackout sketches and snappy one-liners. The picture works well enough, though at some cost in dramatic conviction and depth of feeling.
