As hot as Illinois is on the football recruiting trail, it isn’t a clean sweep. Mt. Carmel offensive lineman Arthur Ray, Jr., made an oral commitment to Michigan State on Monday following an official visit to the school.

Ray, the No. 19 prospect in Illinois according to Rivals.com, originally committed to Boston College. But Eagles coach Tom O’Brien subsequently left the school for North Carolina State, and the 6-foot-3-inch, 280-pounder reopened his commitment. Ray had visited Illinois in early December.

“Michigan State seemed great, it was a perfect fit,” Ray said.

Another honor for Rose

Simeon’s Derrick Rose is among 10 players selected to compete in the 10th annual USA Nike Hoop Summit on April 7 in Memphis.

“I want to show Memphis fans that I’m an unselfish point guard, and I want to show them why they should come watch next year,” said Rose, a 6-4 guard on the No. 2-ranked Wolverines and a Memphis recruit.
