Two Joliet hospitals are scheduled to ban smoking from their campuses on Tuesday. The ban at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center and Silver Cross Hospital also applies to any building that they own, lease or operate, said Provena St. Joseph spokeswoman Allison Bailey.

As of Tuesday, all outside ashtrays and the ventilated “smoking huts” used in inclement weather will be gone.

Will County Health Department Program Manager Cindy Jackson credited the hospitals’ decision as “part of their goal to provide a healthy workplace and facilities of care for all.”
