The Sky didn’t need the four-day run-up it had to choose among the disbanded Charlotte Sting’s players in a dispersal draft Monday. Six-foot guard-forward Monique Currie, a member of the WNBA all-rookie team last season, was the easy No. 1 pick over bigger players with less upside. “She was the best player available,” Sky general manager/coach Bo Overton said. “With her and Candice [Dupree], we have two really high picks from last year. It gives us a very young base of very talented players.” Currie averaged 10 points and 3.9 rebounds for the Sting and currently averages 22.8 points playing in Israel. “I’m very excited,” Currie said. “It’s a new start in a new city with a new franchise.”
