Cesar Cardenas has always wanted to be a concert promoter. And he’s getting his chance with an Aug. 12 show featuring Ramon Ayala and Grupo Rival.
Cardenas, 27, saw his chance when the summer concert series dissolved, leaving several scheduled dates, including the Latin music show, in doubt.
He stepped in to try to fill the 7,000-seat Silver Cross Stadium, which already had been booked by the previous promoter. He’s sold 1,500 tickets at $40 apiece so far, he said.
Doors open at 4 p.m., with the show starting an hour later. Tickets at the door will be $50.
“I couldn’t let go of the opportunity to make it happen, so I just went ahead and did it,” he said Wednesday.
Although the city government isn’t associated with the concerts, City Manager John Mezera told council members Tuesday night that Cardenas appeared to be pulling the concert together.

“The music is great. I think it’s going to work,” said Mezera.
