Prompted by horse breakdowns in two races last week, Arlington Park’s track crew removed 3 1/2 inches of cushion and checked the track’s base from the turn for home to the midway point in the stretch. According to a track spokesman, the investigation determined that there were no irregularities and the base was found to be level and firm. The cushion then was put back on and the surface was harrowed in preparation for training and racing Thursday.
