Tinley Park trustees Tuesday night approved construction of a pedestrian crossing at the train tracks on 80th Avenue near the Metra commuter train station.
The new crossing would include a sidewalk on the west side of 80th from Killarney Court north to 179th Street and small pedestrian gates on each side of the tracks that would drop with the larger gates when a train passes over 80th.
Trustee Michael Bettenhausen said the crossing would make the tracks safer for residents who live west of 80th near the train station, especially those in the Avondale subdivision.
“Our hopes are to get the project completed sometime this year,” Bettenhausen said.
The $150,000 project is to be funded by a $100,000 state grant and $50,000 included in the village’s 2006 budget, he said.
