Greg Oden’s storied high school career concluded fittingly: The seven-footer on the bench, the arena mostly empty. Indianapolis Lawrence North had executed yet another surgical destruction of yet another opponent. Ho-hum. When is Ohio State’s opener?

Oden and Co. drubbed Muncie Central 80-56 for the Indiana Class 4A title Saturday, the future Buckeye contributing 26 points and 11 rebounds and resting the last minute. Oden exited after winning 103 of 110 games, 24 of 25 in the postseason.

Lawrence North (29-0) also became just the third Indiana team to win three straight state titles, and its 45 consecutive wins tie the record set by Oscar Robertson-led Indianapolis Crispus Attucks 50 years ago.

“It might hit you in the morning, you might see a newspaper with a big old picture, and you’ll just smile,” Oden said. “Maybe when we get older, it’ll hit us. Right now we’re enjoying a state championship.”
