Film School
“Film School”
RATING: 2 SOUND LEVELS
Krayg Burton does a credible impression of Robert Smith’s yowl, and, paired on guitar with Nyles Lannon, builds grandiose cathedrals of sound. Yes, Film School is cinematic. But appropriation is the problem. There’s an empty soullessness to the album, and it seems hollowly melodramatic. Still, it’s cool to hear the clear-toned guitar of New Order’s “Ceremony” turn up in “Breet” and to count the Cure allusions in “On & On” and “Harmed.”
