White was the fashion winner on the Golden Globes’ red carpet.

Felicity Huffman and Maria Bello were in ethereal white–a spring trend–with Bello complementing her Elie Saab gown with gardenias in her hair.

Keira Knightley wore a strapless white dress by Valentino with a rope-style belt, and Sandra Oh’s white gown had a sophisticated scarf-style back. Kate Beckinsale’s dress was pulled from the Christian Dior archives and Gwyneth Paltrow showed up in a frilly, lighter-than-air white confection.

But some of fashion’s favorite faces stuck with classic black, such as Sarah Jessica Parker who was in a strapless dress with tiny rows of tulle.

John Galliano designed a cocktail dress for Charlize Theron that featured black lace over nude tulle. And Hilary Swank’s black dress by Jean Yu had a sexy, strappy back.

There were touches of color, ranging from the soft, such as Reese Witherspoon’s short vintage Chanel haute couture in champagne with metallic trim, to the bold: Scarlett Johansson wore a red Valentino.

Among the men, Kevin Bacon’s black tie, black shirt and floppy black blazer made him a fashion dud, while Jamie Foxx made his all-black ensemble rock. Heath Ledger’s cool-dude shades and delicate boutonniere were hip yet elegant.
