Let’s say you’ve met the woman of your most recent dreams and you’re headed back to your place. Along the way, she mentions that the Grasshopper is her favorite drink.
You have to figure she’s not talking about real insects, but you’re positive you don’t have the ingredients for anything called that. So you excuse yourself while you stop off at your liquor store.
Once inside, you pull out your cell phone, dial up Drinknation and presto. Not only do you have the recipe for a Grasshopper (white creme de cacao, green creme de menthe and cream), but you’ve got the recipes for six other kinds of Grasshopper.
You’ll look like a thoughtful genius.
We tried the service, courtesy of eMbience, which developed the cell application for the Drinknation Web site (www.drinknation.com–go there; it’s cool and free). The cell version was easy enough to navigate without reading any instructions, and that’s how the Guy Page likes it.
Drinknation is offered through a monthly subscription at $1.99 per month via your cell phone provider. Beyond that, it’s like making any other cell call, so if you run out of minutes, that’s your problem.
The site has 6,696 cocktail recipes categorized not only by name but also by such routes as ingredients or theme (even “Movie and TV”). We plugged in “martini” and got 90 recipes, one of them actually being a good, old martini.
Pardon us, but now we’re going to go catch that Grasshopper.
