Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Glencoe’s village president wants his constituents to have a nice, intimate evening with civic leaders.
Heart to Heart, on Feb. 15, will be a set of get-togethers in private homes, where residents can talk to members of village boards and commissions about issues in an informal setting, Scott Feldman said.
“There’s no agenda,” he said. “It’s not a formal thing at all. It’s an opportunity for people to meet their officials, meet their neighbors and talk about whatever is of interest.”
The tradition dates to the 1980s, when weighty issues included school closings and race relations, Feldman said. Eventually, he said, residents stopped coming.
“You had all sorts of people from the boards and no civilians, so to speak,” he said.
Concerns today include home rule and a possible bond sale by the Parks Board to renovate a community center, he said, but a main goal is to find out if officials are missing something important to Glencoe’s residents.
“If people aren’t interested in coming, obviously, you don’t do it,” Feldman said. “But the goal is to stimulate people’s interest in what’s going on in town.”
