I saw MySpace pages for some of the characters on NBC’s “The Office.” Are they real? And is it true that the actors on “The Office” update their blogs and MySpace pages while the show is filming?

A. Most of the pages are real, and, yes, they’re often updated while “Office” cameras are rolling. Several of the actors on “The Office” created blogs and MySpace pages for their characters, and though the Internet connection on the set can be patchy, they do work on them during shooting. Rainn Wilson, who blogs in character as Dwight Schrute on NBC.com, says he sometimes writes Dwight’s “Schrute-Space” entries while cameras are rolling. Other actors do the same when their characters are in the background, supposedly doing mundane office work on their computers.

“It’s a virtual reality set. People are working on their Web sites all the time,” Wilson says. In addition to Schrute-Space, B.J. Novak, who plays Ryan Howard and also writes for “The Office,” has done a blog for TVGuide.com, and Jenna Fischer has created a MySpace page for her character, Pam Beesley (her online plea: “Hire me!”). But Wilson warns against believing everything you read online. Someone created a “Rainn Wilson” page on MySpace, but the actor has nothing to do with it. Still, Wilson says he’s “flattered” that someone created the page for him. “It looks like they put a lot of work into it,” he notes.
