Needing two wins for bowl eligibility, Northwestern faces a tougher schedule over the next month. The Wildcats (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) play four games in a row against teams with overall winning records: at No. 22 Michigan State, vs. Michigan and Iowa at home and at No. 14 Ohio State.

“A lot of teams can win the Big Ten, including the team we’re playing this week and including us,” coach Randy Walker said. “Maybe I’m nuts, but I believe it. Nobody’s been eliminated, and nobody’s running away with it.” . . .

Quarterback Brett Basanez was named Big Ten offensive player of the week for the second straight week. His 506 yards of total offense in Saturday’s 34-29 victory at Purdue were eighth best in Big Ten history. . . . Running back Terrell Jordan won’t play this season because of a recurring hamstring injury, Walker said. . . . The Oct. 29 home game against Michigan will kick off at 6 p.m.
