Northwestern plays its first Big Ten road game Saturday at Purdue, where the Wildcats haven’t won since 1995 (four straight losses). “It’s a tough venue, and we’ve never really played well there,” Wildcats coach Randy Walker said. . . . The Wildcats have not run the ball well against Purdue either with only one 100-yard individual rushing game in the last five meetings. “It’s been hard to call a lot of runs when you’re down a couple of scores,” Walker said. “You run the ball a lot better when you’re in the game or in the lead. . . . Hopefully we’ll come out and not fall behind.” . . . The Oct. 22 game at Michigan State will kick off at 11 a.m. … Freshman offensive lineman Thomas Bemenderfer from Penn High School in Mishawaka, Ind., has been named the National High School Scholar-Athlete for 2005 for the Midwest Region by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame.
