I took some time out from my heavy White Sox fear/loathing/loving schedule to meet with one of the really nice guys out there: Bears wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad.
We got together for a game of flicker football at Burger King as part of a promotion and chatted. You know flicker football. Little triangle. Anybody who ever had study hall or lunch knows the game.
First off, nobody says this, but we know it’s true. You went to Michigan State. David Terrell went to Michigan. You’re here because the Michigan guy couldn’t cut it.
Well, I don’t wish any ill will on anyone. You know, David may not have had the career he would have liked. I went to “Wide Receiver U,” though. Andre Rison, Plaxico Burress, Derek Mason and others.
I have a theory. Being a Michigan State fan and a White Sox fan are very similar experiences. No matter what you do, you always have an eye on the 800-pound gorilla up the road that will always get more attention.
Yes, that’s very tough. The Sox are always compared with what the Cubs are doing, and no matter what Michigan State does, it’s always overshadowed by Michigan.
Was it hard for you growing up as a fan of the Lions? That must have been difficult.
Well, I was a fan of the Bears too. But really, I wasn’t so much a fan of teams as I was a fan of the game. I just loved the sport of football so much.
Thank God. I know we have it bad here, but the Lions, whew! Thank goodness you had the Bears as a “go-to.”
At this point, we lined up to play some flicker football. The rules are simple: First one to 21 wins. The final score was Bag Boy 21, Muhsin Muhammad 13. And folks, it wasn’t that close. A couple of deep tosses, plus my kicking game was flawless. Moose had a couple of nice drives, but that’s it.

Well, what can I say? It’s a game of inches. It’s all in the wrist and the way you flick the ball. It’s about finesse, and your kicking game is solid.
