Coach Ron Zook has suggested to redshirt freshman quarterback Kisan Flakes that he try to play wide receiver. “He’s an athletic guy, he’s quick and he has good hands,” Zook said. “If he doesn’t want to do it, he doesn’t have to. The indication I got when I talked to him is he may not want to, [but] it’s impossible at this point in the season to get him the reps he would need to play quarterback.”
Flakes missed training camp and the first game of the season because Zook suspended him after he was arrested June 3 and charged with unlawful possession with intent to deliver marijuana. . . .
When the Illini (2-4, 0-3 Big Ten) watched films of Saturday’s 36-13 loss at Indiana they didn’t see any of their bad plays. “I told them we are making progress,” said Zook, who deleted the bad plays to provide positive reinforcement. “We’re going to get where we’re supposed to be.”
