Lou Barlow
Emoh
Lou Barlow has always proven himself capable of writing good songs, but he’s generally lacked the discipline to release an entire album of them. It’s no wonder that his best work was in the Folk Implosion, a collaboration. “Emoh” gets points just for its clever title, but Barlow’s first proper solo album comes across more consistent than usual even if it still reflects his shambling, hazy lo-fi roots.
Best track: “Mary,” a hummable bit of religious heresy that also serves as a wistful love song.
