Lee Ann Womack

There’s More Where That Came From

Lee Ann Womack has shown that you can be embraced by the country community without necessarily conforming to the slick sound of country radio. Womack’s latest sounds simple and soulful, like something from country’s pre-mainstream heyday. As far as old-school songs of hurt and regret, “There’s More Where That Came From” could be the best of its kind since Allison Moorer’s “The Hardest Part.” But Womack’s pop prominence makes it stand as a much bolder statement. People should hear this disc and remember what country music used to be like.

Best track: “Twenty Years and Two Husbands Ago,” rife with romantic nostalgia and appropriately draped with strings and weeping slide guitar.
