Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

No. 1 running back Noah Herron was held out of practice for a second straight day Wednesday, increasing doubt about his availability for Saturday’s game against Kansas.

Herron, who was evaluated again Wednesday night by team medical personnel, was in an orange jersey, the “absolutely-no-practice” designation Northwestern uses for injured players. Terrell Jordan, the likely starter with Herron still recovering from a dizzying hit in last week’s Arizona State game, was himself in a “practice-but-no-contact” red jersey because of a sore shoulder.

“I’m not sure he’d start [if he cannot practice],” coach Randy Walker said of Herron. “But we feel real good about Terrell. He has displayed that he can be an exceptional player for us. We’re looking for 15-20 carries out of Terrell.”

Herron is averaging 4.4 yards per carry and nearly 100 yards per game. Jordan is averaging 4.7 per rush and scored on a 25-yard run against Arizona State.
