If Southern Illinois snaps its 18-game losing streak to Division I-A teams with a victory over Northern Illinois on Saturday, chances are Salukis coach Jerry Kill can thank his Coffeyville connection.

Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College, the same school where recent Salukis tailback Muhammad Abdulqaadir honed his skills, has provided the 2004 Salukis with four star transfers: running backs Brandon Jacobs and Arkee Whitlock and starting safties Frank Johnson and Jamarquis Jordan.
The 260-pound Jacobs averaged 6.2 yards per carry at Auburn on a stopover between Coffeyville and Carbondale.
Kill likes Whitlock, a sophomore from South Carolina.
“He’s a jitterbug type and has very good vision,” Kill said. “He could be one of the better players we’ve ever had.”
SIU has another star transfer running back, Saginaw, Mich., native Terry Jackson. He rushed for more than 1,300 yards for Minnesota in 2002.
