Northwestern rushed for 120 yards against a Texas Christian defense that was among the nation’s best against the run last season. But NU coach Randy Walker was not satisfied with the results or with the play of tailback Noah Herron in his first game as the featured back of the offense.

Herron ran for 94 yards and two touchdowns but moved away from the north-south, straighter-line running style Walker wants. Walker gave Herron a not-too-gentle reminder during the game and was pleased with the reaction if not all the results.

“Noah still reverts back, likes to maneuver more than I like him to,” Walker said. “He takes coaching. He doesn’t sit there and [complain]. We `visited’ early in the game, and he could have copped an attitude. He didn’t do that. He took constructive criticism and executed better.”

At 225 pounds, Herron still believes he has some “shake, and can use it when I need to,” he said.
