Illinois coach Ron Turner was elated Saturday after watching his team destroy Florida A&M 52-13. After reviewing the game films, he was even more exhilarated Monday.
“We didn’t make a whole lot of mistakes that you ordinarily see in the first game,” he said. “We had no turnovers, no pre-snap penalties, no sacks (by Florida A&M). We didn’t make mistakes coverage-wise.”

But don’t get the impression that the film session left Turner completely satisfied.
“We can get a lot better,” he said. “The biggest thing is just techniques and fundamentals.”
– Junior wide receiver Kendrick Jones played in 18 games as a backup during the last two seasons and had one reception each year for a total of 21 yards. Now Jones is in the starting lineup, and he was the top receiver against Florida A&M with 101 yards on three catches.
“Kendrick knows the offense,” QB Jon Beutjer said, “and he’s got a lot of confidence.”
