Created in Darkness by Troubled Americans: The Best of McSweeney’s Humor Category

Edited by Dave Eggers, Kevin Shay, Lee Epstein, John Warner, and Suzanne Kleid

Knopf, 239 pages, $16.95

This collection of pieces that appeared in the San Francisco-based literary journal McSweeney’s is worth the price of admission if you laugh half as hard as I did over just one of them, “The Ten Worst Films of All Time, as Reviewed by Ezra Pound Over Italian Radio.” The volume (which does include a few clunkers) reflects a sensibility that challenges most magazines’ definition of “funny.”
