Fox is recruiting a panel of overqualified Mary Poppinses to star in the new reality series “Nanny 911.”

Fox is looking for a team of nannies, each with a particular child-rearing specialty, ranging from proper etiquette to controlling temper tantrums. The search is also on for families with children between the ages of 2 and 9.

Information on how to apply for the series is available on Fox’s Web site.

Fox is producing “Nanny 911” with British-based Granada, and the network no doubt would like to beat ABC’s “Supernanny” to the air. ABC hopes for a 2004-05 premiere for its nanny series, which is based on a popular British format starring real-life nanny Jo Frost. The network has ordered eight episodes of “Supernanny.”

The first word about both shows hit the industry trade papers on the same day late last month, but Fox is getting into the habit of beating the competition to the marketplace with “Trading Spouses” (ahead of ABC’s “Wife Swap”) and “The Next Great Champ” (ahead of NBC’s “The Contender”) serving as the latest examples.
