The Anchor Book of New American Short Stories
Edited by Ben Marcus
Anchor, 480 pages, $13 paper
With so many great short-story anthologies around, why read this one? There’s a real range in the selection here–style, emotional terrain, some experimental, some quite traditional. There are also some familiar names (Jhumpa Lahiri, Aleksandar Hemon, David Foster Wallace) and some names that should be more famous (Joanna Scott and Lydia Davis).
