On the off chance that there are a few people in America who haven’t already planned their evening on Thursday around the finale of “Friends,” underdog ABC has put together something special with the crew of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” which ordinarily rebuilds and redecorates a deserving family’s house in seven days.
This time, the challenge is even more daunting.
“First I thought, ‘What are we doing?’ ” designer Michael Moloney says. ” ‘We’re going up against the “Friends” finale? What?’ But the fact is, it’s a courageous move. Our viewers will see it one way or another. They can tape ‘Friends’ and watch us.”
At 7 p.m. Thursday, in a two-hour episode called “Extreme Makeover: A Special Home Edition–Friends Helping Friends,” Moloney and his cohorts head to Manhattan to redo an apartment for a group of roommates in only 12 hours.
Following the two-hour episode at 9 p.m. is an abbreviated version of ABC News’ “Primetime Live,” which ends 10 minutes early to allow a live feed of the roommates coming home and seeing the transformation.
