A national survey ranks Portland, Ore., the San Francisco Bay area and Austin, Texas, as top “hot spots” for wireless Internet access.
“I think the big message is that [wireless service] is growing like crazy,” said researcher Bert Sperling, who conducted the survey for Intel Corp., which is promoting computer processor chips that support wireless networking. “There are also more and more [places] that people are using it,” from campgrounds to homes and offices, he said. The report puts Chicago at No. 11 (this sentence as published has been corrected in this text).
