A proposed 673-acre development failed to receive a necessary supermajority from Plainfield village trustees this week, putting the proposed project between 135th and 143rd Streets near a planned extension of Heggs Road into uncertainty.
Trustee Kathy O’Connell, who voted against the motion and served as acting mayor during a board meeting this week, amended her motion to allow the developer, Macom of Naperville, to come before the village at a workshop and address her concerns over density.
Trustee Paul Fay, who also voted against the annexation of the 1,370-unit McMicken Assemblage, that would include single and attached town homes, said after the meeting that he wants to see limits to both the number and size of developments.
“My position is basically that the village needs to begin to manage its growth, and these developments are getting larger and coming before us more quickly,” Fay said.
“We need to look, as other municipalities have, on limiting the number of permits we issue per year. It’s a gauge and it’s a balance and acts as a stabilization mechanism.”
The 4-2 vote in favor was short of the necessary five votes needed to pass an annexation.
