ABC is giving its freshman sitcom “It’s All Relative” a chance to end its season away from the large shadow of Fox’s “American Idol.”

“Relative” will move to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays for its final four episodes of the season, beginning March 30. The regular occupant of that time slot, “Less than Perfect,” will take a break and return to end its season in May sweeps.

“It’s All Relative,” about the clashes between a blue-collar Boston family whose son is engaged to a Harvard-educated woman raised by a gay couple, fared reasonably well through the first half of the season, averaging about 9.3 million viewers per week.

But since the Jan. 21 premiere of “American Idol’s” Wednesday edition, “Relative”–the only half-hour show that airs opposite Fox’s smash–has taken a substantial hit, averaging only 6.9 million viewers.
