Keb’ Mo’

Keep It Simple

Keb’ Mo’ (Kevin Moore) uses the blues as a backdrop for pop songs. There’s nothing wrong with that, as long as you come to his music without the ears of a purist who defines the blues as the rawness and grit of a John Lee Hooker or Buddy Guy. On his fifth studio effort, Keb’ Mo’ uses the Lyle Lovett recipe, mixing blues, folk and country with low-key panache and wit to create a perfectly pleasant musical concoction. Call this blues for the Chardonnay set–Jim Beam lovers should stick to Robert Johnson.

Take away: Simply pleasant
