The Sci Fi Channel, having built a successful night of original scripted series on Fridays, will try to use unscripted shows to gain a foothold on a second night.
Starting March 4, Sci Fi will air a two-hour block of original shows anchored by the new series “Mad Mad House” and the returning “Scare Tactics.”
The long-in-development animated “Mad Mad House,” which will air at 8 p.m., is a “Big Brother”-ish show in which 10 people, including an exotic dancer, an aspiring actress, a “hunk from the Bible Belt” and a writer/janitor, vie for a $100,000 prize. It ended up on Sci Fi by virtue of its other guests: a Wiccan, a voodoo priestess, a naturist, a “modern primitive” and a self-professed vampire.
Those five, known collectively as the “Alts,” will determine who gets booted from the house each week and who ultimately ends up with the cash.
A new season of “Scare Tactics” will air at 9 p.m. Thursdays, followed at 9:30 p.m. by “Tripping the Rift,” an animated spoof of space operas.
